Rethinking our American Outlook

...that doesn't work in the concern of guns, and the "right to bear arms".

Right now, across the border from DETROIT, in Windsor, Ontario, DETROIT's Canadian sister city, they are having the funeral of a Windsor police officer, who was killed in the line of duty. While very normal in this country, it is a rare and unusual occurance there. Between Detroit and Windsor, traveling back and forth is so much the norm, how is it that WE have not picked up on their more peaceful and civilized ways? And how have they managed, so far, not to pick up the alledged violent ways of Detroit?

It would distress me greatly to find out that the young people who killed this officer, were from Detroit, or any part of the surrounding area. That part of our culture we do NOT need to export! Many of you have often wondered (out loud to me, as a matter of fact) why I persist as I do with PPT, and the prevention of crime, when so few seem to think in PREVENTION terms. As does JOHN WALSH, of "AMERICA'S MOST WANTED", I believe EVERY citizen can make a difference when it comes to crime, and PPT is my contribution to that effort, as much as AMW is for WALSH. I

n one of my favorite movies, "RAPID FIRE", starring the late BRANDON LEE (Bruce Lee's son), the police detective admonishes BRANDON's character that at some point in life, you have to take a stand, and make a difference. "YOU GOTTA CARE ABOUT SOMETHING!", he says. To that same end, in the first "SPIDERMAN" movie, SPIDERMAN's Uncle tells him, "With GREAT power, comes GREAT RESPONSIBILITY!"

Yes, these are just entertainment movies, but there is a MESSAGE there, if you want to see it that way. My Mother used to tell me that I talk so much, that I would probably end up being a LAWYER (Don't laugh, PETER and CRAIG), or on TV doing WALTER CRONKITE's job. In school I was CONSTANTLY yanked out of class to do school announcements on the PA system, as well as morning news. I also had to do dramatic readings at PTA and other school events. So, if my "power" is my voice(or my "big mouth", however you see it), then I must do something to help, and I encourage you to do likewise, in whatever way you see fit.

Do some community service, work at a Domestic Violence hotline, start a neighborhood watch, etc. You martial artists should do more self defense classes when you can. Prevention should be the "Call Word" when it comes to both our health and safety. As always, please pass this commentary along to others in your circle of family, friends and colleagues.

"Personal Safety IS, your PERSONAL
RESPONSIBILITY! Don't take it LIGHTLY!"(TM)
